“Disrespectful, brain slop video…”
SM Entertainment‘s British boy band dearALICE have found themselves in hot water after sharing a “disrespectful” video online.
The five members have seemingly deeply upset fans who have since called out and blasted the group online, which led to their most recent TikTok being deleted.
The controversy started when fans of the group called out the use of generative AI to create the album cover of dearALICE’s most recent single album Sweet. The album art shows an ice cream with the word “sweet” created from the ice cream’s drip. Ever since fans continuously called out the group’s management and demanded for them to stop using AI for their projects.

Thanks to @DearAliceACEZ, we’ve received more clarity on the ‘Sweet’ AI cover situation.
We are now POSITIVE the image seen on the ‘Sweet’ cover art is entirely made with AI, with the ‘Sweet’ cover art having extra drips, whether this was a stylization… pic.twitter.com/1ka0bWfuYq

The use of AI in K-Pop has been a trending problem for a while now, as fans condemn companies opting to use the technology instead of hiring real artists to work on similar pieces.
dearALICE’s staff using ai yet again instead of hiring artists is ridiculous. on the left is normally how an ice cream would melt and the right is the slop they made the cover of their new single. did they think we wouldn’t catch it out 😐 pic.twitter.com/60ZaZeuh2Q

While no hate was initially directed at the dearALICE members themselves, they seemingly felt obligated to “address” the complaints in a video that has since been branded “disrespectful” by their own fans.
In the video, the members seemingly start off stating an apology while struggling to keep a straight face. Then, at the end, instead of addressing the controversy, they simply promote their new single.
Hey guys, dearALICE here.
We’ve seen the tension in the comment section, and we’ve seen the tweets on Twitter. You guys are unhappy and we wanna let you know that you are heard. We wanted to address the situation we don’t wanna undermine the severity of its um…
I think what we need to address is a few things, but I think the first thing we need to say is…. “Sweet” music video is out now!!!

The TikTok was met with swift and strong backlash online, and not much later, it was deleted.
