In 2024, members of one of AKB48‘s sister groups went viral over an alleged cheating scandal that involved three of the members themselves.
Like AKB48, the Japanese girl group known for cycling members through a graduation system, the Shanghai-based SNH48 operates similarly.
In May 2024, a then-member of the group, 28-year-old Shen Xiaoai, made a bombshell post that revealed she had been in a relationship with a woman but had now broken up with her.
Xiaoai had allegedly been dating fellow member Lu Xinyi (22), who cheated on her with another member, Wang Yuchen(21).
In a post on Weibo, Xiaoai revealed that the pair had had an emotional affair, which ended their two-and-a-half-year relationship.

Now, a year later, there have been a few updates to these idols’ activities.
Xiaoai is still a member of the group, and was recently ranked 33rd in the General Election, earning her a spot as the center of the subunit Next Girls.
Lu Xinyi was originally ranked 46 in the previous General Election, but did not have a ranking in the latest. It is worth noting that for the group’s “Best Partners” competition in 2024, Lu Xinyi’s partner was Wang Yuchen, a change from previously partnering with Xiaoai.
Wang Yuchen, who is technically a member of GNZ48, ranked 27th in the SNH48 election, higher than both idols of the former couple. She also was recently named MVP for the month in her group.

There has been no word on Xinyi and Yuchen’s relationship but based on their activity together, it appears they might have continued on.
