A fourth-generation boy group member recently posted a handwritten apology addressing the recent controversies regarding his past.

The idol in question is Hwang Seongbin, a member of the boy group 82MAJOR.

Seongbin’s letter touched upon the controversy that stemmed from his past activities on SoundCloud. He was caught liking a rap song that mocked former South Korean President Moon Jae In on the platform, which triggered a politically charged backlash.

Another scandal that Seongbin is currently embroiled in started with his recent on-stage rap performance during which he made an insensitive comment to his fellow member. He dissed the member, referencing his 6.6 km on Memorial Day run and 8.5 km on Liberation Day run, saying,  “Are you going to become an independence fighter?”

Regarding the first controversy, Seongbin clarified that it was just him showing interest in the artist’s song, and not an endorsement of what was being said in the track.

When I was a student, just beginning my journey in music, I showed simple interest in a particular artist’s songs by liking each new release. However, I now realize that I acted carelessly without fully understanding the messages and meanings those songs carried. That was clearly a shortcoming on my part, and in hindsight, a very thoughtless action.

He also addressed the issue of him dissing a fellow member, admitting that he didn’t use the right words to put his actual intentions forward.

Additionally, during a concert, I performed a rap with the intention of highlighting a unique side of one of our members. However, I failed to fully consider the weight of the words used, and I ended up making people uncomfortable in the process.

Seongbin went on to apologize to fans whom he felt he had let down with his actions and promised to do better in the future.

To the fans who have supported me, and to everyone who has cared for our team, I offer my heartfelt apologies for the disappointment I’ve caused.

As a singer, I am truly ashamed and have come to realize just how much responsibility comes with every word and action I take.

I will take this incident as a moment of deep reflection and strive to become someone who always acts with more thought and care.

Once again, I sincerely apologize to everyone who felt uncomfortable or hurt by my actions.

I am truly sorry.
