Gerard Butler kicked off the year with the release of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, but one of his more recent action flicks just got the streaming update fans have been waiting for. Butler stars alongside Mike Colter in Plane, the 2023 survival thriller following a pilot (Butler) who finds himself in a war zone after he’s forced to land his aircraft during a terrible storm. The film has been streaming exclusively on Peacock for several months now, but now Netflix has announced that Plane will debut on the platform tomorrow, June 11. Plane grossed $74 million at the box office against a $25 million budget, and it earned a “certified fresh” 79% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes and a “verified hot” 94% on the audience-driven Popcornmeter.

Plane has had several runs of profound streaming success on Peacock during its time on the platform, so there’s no reason to believe it won’t also shoot down its streaming competitors once it debuts on Netflix. Butler starred in Plane shortly before the release of Kandahar, the conspiracy thriller that’s also been charting recently on the free streamer Tubi. Things were then mostly silent from the Scottish star until the premiere of Den of Thieves 2: Pantera earlier this year, and he has another movie coming to theaters everywhere this weekend. Butler will reprise his role as Stoick in the live-action How to Train Your Dragon movie, which is expected to be a major box office hit. Butler recently shared his apprehension about the project upon learning it was happening, but director Dean DeBlois didn’t have too much trouble getting him to sign on.

What Are the Best Gerard Butler Movies on Streaming?

Other than Plane, Gerard Butler fans can check him out in Den of Thieves 2: Pantera, London Has Fallen, and Geostorm, but the third film will depart the streamer at the end of this month. On Prime Video, fans can check out Butler in Shattered, the 2007 rom-com with Pierce Brosnan, and he can also be seen in Beowulf and Grendel. Most of Butler’s other movies are also available to rent on Prime Video. There are no Gerard Butler movies streaming on Paramount+ at the time of writing, but Max subscribers can watch him in Greenland, the 2020 film with Morena Baccarin.

Plane premieres on Netflix tomorrow. Stay tuned to Collider for more streaming updates and coverage of all Butler’s future projects.
