Glen Powell’s doing what Hollywood usually doesn’t—making movies for the rest of America. Currently sitting at No. 7 on Prime Video’s Top 10, Twisters is the kind of high-octane action spectacle that moviegoers in cities outside LA and New York are showing up for again and again. And Powell’s not surprised. In fact, he’s been calling this out for a while.

Having grown up in and around Texas, I’m aware there are vast parts of America that have been under-served in terms of movies that they want to see,” Powell told Fox News last year. “You sort of have New York and Los Angeles making the decisions about what gets made, but there’s a whole lot more audience out there you need to think about.”

That instinct paid off. Twisters, directed by Lee Isaac Chung, was already a hit in theatres last year, pulling in $372 million worldwide—$267 million of that from U.S. audiences alone. And now, nearly a year later, the film is still tearing through streaming platforms like a digital tornado. As of June 8, Twisters had spent 82 straight days in the upper ranks of Prime Video’s U.S. chart, so you know that audiences are truly eating this up and can’t get enough of chasing storms and spending time with Powell on the Oklahoma trail.

Is ‘Twisters’ Worth Watching?

It wasn’t just audiences eating this one up. On Rotten Tomatoes, Twisters holds a strong 75% critics score and an even better 90% audience rating. That’s a big leap from the original Twister, which pulled in 67% from critics and only 58% from viewers. Collider’s Jeff Ewing praised the “memorable moments,” “interpersonal drama,” and “wonderful chemistry” between Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones, calling Twisters a “thrilling crowd-pleaser” and “an excellent showcase of talent across the board.”

“As a whole, Twisters works. Once again, Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell prove they can anchor a thrilling tale, grounding a film that has scale and high stakes. Lee Isaac Chung’s direction is inspired and the script itself is well-paced, intelligent, and full of memorable moments, alongside a strong showcase and development of themes that connect with the original film. On balance, Twisters is nonetheless a thrilling crowd-pleaser that takes the disaster picture in exciting, novel directions, and an excellent showcase of talent across the board.”

Twisters is currently streaming on Prime Video. Stay tuned to Collider for more updates on Glen Powell.
