While messages of mourning and grief poured in from peers and fans on social media, some speculations about his death also started making the rounds online. Since the cause of Kim’s death was not revealed to the public, it only fueled them further.
The rumors circulating about his death suggested that Kim was involved in a tragic incident that occurred in Hanam, Gyeonggi-do. The incident involved a man in his 20s who reportedly assaulted his girlfriend, was subsequently separated from her by police intervention, and later jumped to his death from the rooftop of a high-rise residence.
In response, Kim Jong Suk’s family issued a statement, urging netizens to refrain from disseminating these rumors and allow them to grieve his loss in peace. “The false information spreading online is causing our family immense pain,” Kim’s sister wrote in a social media post on June 6.
She mentioned that the bereaved family had decided not to respond to these rumors out of respect for the deceased, but had changed their minds given the current situation. She stated that the family had decided to release the recordings from the police and the people who were with him, as well as his final conversations with those who were involved in the incident, soon, and prove his innocence.
Kim’s sister also mentioned that her family was planning to pursue strict legal action against malicious posts about her brother.
