Get ready for the premiere of upcoming drama “Hunter with a Scalpel”!

“Hunter with a Scalpel” is a psychological crime thriller starring Park Ju Hyun as Seo Se Hyun, a brilliant but troubled forensic pathologist. One day, while conducting an autopsy, Se Hyun recognizes the signature murder method of her father Jo Kyun (Park Yong Woo)—a serial killer who she thought had died 20 years ago. Determined not to become his next target, Se Hyun sets out to find him before the police can.

Ahead of the premiere, “Hunter with a Scalpel” unveiled four reasons to anticipate the upcoming drama.

1. A strong and novel script

One of the charms director Lee Jung Hoon and the actors picked for the drama is the script. Park Ju Hyun shared, “When I first received the script, it felt very fresh, and I thought that this is a type of project you couldn’t see in Korea [until now].” She continued, “It’s a bold project that is unfiltered, so I think it will make it even more engaging and provocative for viewers.” Park Yong Woo shared, “The depth and level of completion of the script are really great. It is very difficult to maintain the tension in the middle to latter part [of the story], but this drama becomes more interesting as it progresses.” Kang Hoon added, “It felt really fresh that the tension continued from the beginning to end.”

2. Unique characters made by skilled actors

Another reason to anticipate the drama is the unique characters made by the hard work and passionate acting of the cast. Director Lee Jung Hoon praised Park Ju Hyun, sharing, “I had deep conversations with Park Ju Hyun to create the character of Se Hyun, who is the biggest axis of the story, and to express the emotions of Se Hyun. I think that is how the good results were made.” Park Yong Woo further talked about his character Jo Kyun, sharing, “As a character that requires a lot of imagination, I did a lot of research. Since I think people who are evil without guilt are the scariest, I thought a lot about [my character] with that point in focus.” With regards to his police character Jung Hyun, Kang Hoon revealed, “I gained approximately 6 kilograms (approximately 13 pounds), and I consulted police officers [for my character].”

3. Intriguing character ties

One of the elements that make “Hunter with a Scalpel” shine is the unique character ties. Park Ju Hyun talked about her character’s relationship with her father, saying “It’s a love-hate relationship bound by blood.” Park Yong Woo shared, “Jo Kyun believes that his twisted obsession with his daughter is love, and he is a figure who wants to prove himself through that obsession,” raising intrigue about their father-daughter bond. Regarding the relationship between Se Hyun and Jung Hyun, Park Ju Hyun shared, “Jung Hyun is the one person that Se Hyun can lean on,” while Kang Hoon remarked, “He is a character who becomes conflicted toward Se Hyun, whom he respects, while solving the puzzle of the case.”

4. Maximizing thrill through drama format

The final point to anticipate is the drama’s format of airing 30-minute-long episodes that elevate the drama’s thrill. Director Lee Jung Hoon shared, “In order to show fast development, rather than one-hour long episodes, the mid-form length which cuts [the length] in half was better suited. We squeezed a lot, so many events happen within 30 minutes.” Kang Hoon added, “Since it’s a mid-form drama, the pace is extremely fast. Despite the fast development, the drama hits all the major [plot] points, making it more exciting and tense.”

“Hunter with a Scalpel” is set to premiere on June 16.
